If you want to rent an apartment for days, or weeks in Hong Kong, it isn’t too easy. For one thing, you are usually asked to rent for at least a month. And do prepare for the high rent. Hong Kong’s rent, just like its property price, is very high.
There are only few choices for short-term apartment rental in Hong Kong, as you may have guessed. It is probably because the property price is so high that most people can only afford to buy one property to live in. For those who can afford to have a spare property for lease, they would rather lease it to local residents on a yearly contract.
Well, you can still find short-term apartments for just a few days or weeks, though the choice is limited. The daily rate ranges from HK$350 to HK$2,000.
For those on the budget, check out rent a room. This company’s self-contained room-apartments offer a range of price (from about HK$400 for 1 person to about HK$1000 for 4 persons per day) to choose from. Its location in Jordan, Kowloon, is convenient. But do expect the apartment is small and pretty basic with little decoration.
You can also check out this site for a higher end market. Most of them are for month-long rent only. But there are few that you can rent on a per-day basis for up to HK$1,300 a day. This site offers daily-pakcage of serviced apartment at about HK$1600 in prime areas of Hong Kong.
If you plan to stay in HK for a month, the choice is a lot wider. Hang Lung Properties, a Hong Kong main developer, offers three locations of serviced apartments on a monthly rental basis. All apartemtns are conveniently located and nicely decorated. You can choose from its apartments of different sizes, facilities and prices. Other choices (most of them expensive choices) include Apartment Kapok, V Serviced Apartments (looks stylish), Eaton House (very expensive), 88 (luxury!) and 153&163 (looks like a typical HK ordinary home).
Here’s more: theV, sytlish studio/apartments, with locations at Happy Valley, Causeway Bay, Wanchai and West Kowloon, with price from HK$13,800 per month for a studio; The Lodge, HK$10,500 -12,800 per month, brand new apartments with boardband and cable TV, near Jordan MTR station and Kowloon MTR station; and the Regent Heights, with more than 100 units of different apartment types, located in Causeway Bay, one month lease required.

my suggestion is you come to hk and find an agent in the area you want to stay. all agents in hk are licensed and a majority of them are chain agents. they will let you see as many flats as you want and you pay them commission only when you rent one. midlevel, sheung wan are some of the good areas to live in, if your office will be near.

For short term rentals in Hong Kong, we recommend you search for serviced apartment. They can offer packages on the utilities as well or sometimes just included in the rental price altogether.
Serviced apartments really are the best option for people seeking short term rentals not just because of more availability in comparison to individually owned apartments but because of quality also. They are usually very nicely furnished.
Depending on your budget, serviced apartments can be small but consider this, there are not a lot of individual landlords who renovate their apartments to the same quality. Even if standard apartments were bigger, it’s always difficult to find one since all the landlords prefer long term lease and the majority of them may increase the rental price if they rent short term to you.
I would say shop around a bit with hotels as well even. Sometimes hotel rates can be comparable if your stay is not all that long. Of course for those who like to cook and want a hotel room with kitchen, don’t expect those to come cheap.
There are many serviced apartments in Hong Kong and some could be standard outlook and quality if they’re one of the cheaper ones compared to most but usually they are always in great and best of locations.

The place is so tiny less than 18 meters and the flat was worn out. A a real dump. nothing like the brochure or advert. Don’t be fooled in booking without fully inspecting.

With my experience in real estate, for short term rentals, the best options are usually:
a) serviced apartments:
(can be expensive, small but usually nicely furnished and good luxury),
b) single rooms available within a larger apartment:
(by landlords or the tenants – cheaper but not always in the location or condition you want).
c) some hotels can provide a monthly package, (not ideal if you prefer to have a kitchen with proper cooker etc I think…- for those that offer this package, compare with the serviced apartment rates if available).

I posted a comment before on here stating how difficult it is to find a place to stay in Hong Kong for around 3 weeks for my family (5) without spending a small fortune. Anna offered me some great pointers. Since then, I have been searching hard on the Internet. Believe it or not, there are some possibilities out there, like US $90/night for a 3BR in Causeway Bay.

We’ll be visiting Hong Kong for 3 weeks this fall. We are 2 adults and 3 children. This makes it tough, because as the family grows, hotel rooms in HK seem to be out of the question, unless you are loaded with money.
Thanks for your links to “serviced apartment” sites. I imagine that is the way we’ll need to go this trip. It would be nice to keep the cost down to $100 US per night but as I browse these sites, that might be hard to do. I wonder if the economy going down will help with prices later on? Or do mainland Chinese keep Hong Kong “booked” regardless.

Just want to give you some indicator of the kind of accommodation you can get for hk$300. it would be a very tiny room in a youth hostel with two beds, hardly any space left, with a small tv hanging on the wall, and a very small shower and toilet facility.
so hk$400 for a decent apartment is out of question.

Luyna, hongkong’s fishing industry is dying out. don’t think you can find a view with fishing activity. but you can try hong kong gold coast, or discovery bay which will have seaview and will not cost much.
Access to the airport is not a problem in hk. Airport buses or Airport railway take you to the airport from any corner of the city.
