Viewed dragon boat racing in Aberdeen today, on the day of Dragon Boat Festival. It was the first time I had come here for viewing the boat racing. The crowd is smaller than I thought and no doubt smaller than the crowd at Stanley, a tourist spot famous for dragon boat racing, among others.
There is a distinct local flair to the racing here. Many in the crowd live in the vicinity, judging by their conversations, and a few participating teams comprised the fishermen from Aberdeen, a still thriving fishing port. Some fishing boats parked along the water passage, providing a good vantage point for some spectators.
It was a very hot day, but has not dimmed the atmosphere. The racing started at 8:30am and culminated at 4pm when the biggest dragon boats competed for championship.
